early spring row

This sketch is the forty-fourth in a 365-day challenge to draw a picture a day, every day, for a year…

Day forty-four: This morning when I went outside the unexpectedly warm air smelled like Spring. It reminded me of early season rowing when the air is warm, the water is dark and cold, and there is still snow on the wooded banks of the Mississippi. Feels great! This quick sketch from memory and imagination attempts to capture the essence of those rows. For those concerned about the cold-water safety of this single sculler, please imagine a motor launch just outside the picture plane.
